William A. Markham
Mr. Markham is a San Diego attorney who received his law degree in 1987 from Harvard Law School.
While at Harvard, he served as an associate editor of the Harvard International Law Journal. After law school, he became an associate litigator in the San Francisco office of a world-renowned international law firm, Coudert Brothers, where he received his initial professional training. He established his own law practice in 1990. Since then, he has evolved into a seasoned trial lawyer who mostly litigates real estate disputes and commercial matters in California.

Mr. Markham has obtained some very notable successes in his litigation work, including two seven-figure recoveries for plaintiffs and several defense victories for defendants in very difficult cases. He has litigated a wide range of commercial and real estate disputes, and he has tried dozens of cases to a final verdict. He has obtained superb results time after time precisely because he is genuinely prepared to take each case to trial and to win on the merits at trial. This approach often leads to successful settlements or, failing this, to a successful verdict.

He has also written several articles on commercial and real estate law, which are widely read and have served as reference sources for other attorneys and the public at large (see Articles). In addition, he has twice served on the side as an adjunct law professor while continuing to practice law on a full-time basis, offering one course at Hastings Law School in 1990 and another at Lincoln Law School in 1994.

From his work Mr. Markham has developed a far-reaching, profound knowledge of commercial and real estate matters. For this reason, he is also highly skilled at analyzing and preparing commercial transactions of various kinds, such as partnership agreements, operating agreements, commercial leases, secured transactions, and various other kinds of commercial contracts.

Mr. Markham is completely fluent in English and French and can also converse in Spanish. He is admitted to practice law in California, Washington, D.C. and various federal courts. You can contact him directly at wm@malmarlaw.com.

Antonio Maldonado
Mr. Maldonado practices both U.S. and Mexican law, doing so with the highest proficiency on both sides of the border. He holds an American law degree from American University and a Mexican law degree from Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, a world-class university center whose law school ranks among the best in Mexico.

Mr. Maldonado maintains a superb network of professional contacts in Mexico, particularly in Tijuana and Mexico City.

He performs commercial and real estate transactions that are governed by U.S. law, Mexican law or both. He thus handles transactions that take place on each side of the border or that straddle both sides of the border. He is able to grasp the different issues and problems that can arise in such transactions, addressing them skillfully before they involve his clients in unforeseen complications and expense.

Mr. Maldonado also has expertise in immigration and nationality law, and he can comprehensively address all immigration concerns that a client might have on either side of the border. Under his direct supervision, the firm handles visa and entry applications of every description for both countries, and he personally handles complex immigration and customs matters that require his expert attention. He has authored many articles on the law and writes a twice-weekly column on immigration law that appears in Frontera, the most widely circulated newspaper in Tijuana.

Mr. Maldonado, who is equally fluent in English and Spanish, is admitted to practice law in Mexico, California, New York, and various federal courts. You can contact him directly at am@malmarlaw.com.

Other Attorneys
In all our matters, Mr. Maldonado and Mr. Markham chart the underlying strategy and perform the essential legal analysis. If the client agrees in advance, we sometimes associate with other attorneys in our larger matters or delegate certain simple tasks to a junior attorney who performs the work at a lower hourly rate under the direct supervision of Mr. Maldonado or Mr. Markham. We associate only with attorneys who have excellent backgrounds and meet our professional standards.

We also work with two highly regarded lawyers in Tijuana -- Luis Alfonso Leyva-Castro, who is a first-rate civil litigator, and Victor Herrero, who specializes in Mexican immigration law and also serves as the dean of graduate programs at Universidad Iberoamericana.
